Siento mucho postear esto casi una semana después de lo sucedido, leí el mail tarde, pero no demasiado tarde como para no darles a conocer lo siguiente:

me llegó este correo que envía jill freidberg, la
realizadora de un documental que probablemente muchos
hemos visto, se llama "granito de arena" y es sobre la
lucha de los maestros en méxico. Pues ahora, esos mismos maestros están
siendo reprimidos y jill escribe una carta pidiendo
ayuda. les copio abajo la versión en español e inglés
de la carta.

esto, más lo que pasó en atenco y tantas otras cosas
de las que no nos enteramos, muestran que fox es un
auténtico asesino digno seguidor del otro asesino del
norte...

Subject: Maestros mexicanos sufren repression diaria.
Solicitud de solidaridad

Queridos amigos,

Durante las dos últimas semanas, muchos de ustedes
firmaron una carta de solidaridad con los maestros de
escuelas públicas de Oaxaca, que están en paro desde
el 22 de mayo.

Esta mañana, 14 de junio, al atardecer, miles de
policías entraron al centro de Oaxaca y atacaron a los
maestros, que han estado acampando en las calles desde
que el paro empezó. También fue atacada la sede del
Sindicato de Maestros. Su Radio Plantón fue destruida
y el personal de la radio fue golpeado y arrestado.

Al medio día de hoy (14 de junio) se ha confirmado que
existen cinco muertos. El reporte no confirmado es que
entre los muertos hay dos niños y dos mujeres.

Muchos más maestros han sido lastimados y arrestados.

Los reportes indican que, a pesar del ataque policial
brutal, los maestros han retomado el centro de la
ciudad, y que cientos de padres, niños y estudiantes
se están acercando al centro para apoyar a los
maestros.

Hasta el momento la represión ha sido llevada a cabo
por la policía estatal, sin la participación de la
policía federal. Pero hay rumores de que la federal
está en camino. Necesitamos hacernos escuchar tanto
por el gobernador de Oaxaca como por el presidente
Vicente Fox.

La última vez que escribí les pedí que firmen una
carta. Esta vez les pido que lleven su solidaridad a
las calles. Obviamente, el gobernador de Oaxaca no
leyó su correo. Les estoy pidiendo que se movilicen en
cualquier modo. Si pueden, plántense fuera del
consulado mexicano del lugar donde viven. Traigan
maestros, padres y estudiantes con ustedes. Si no
pueden hacer esto, llamen a su embajada local o
consulado y digan lo que piensan. Demanden que el
consulado local entregue su mensaje al gobernador del
estado de Oaxaca.

Díganles que estamos atentos. Que la situación debe
resolverse mediante el diálogo, no la represión, y que
el estado de Oaxaca debe respetar y atender las justas
demandas de los maestros. Díganles que cualquier
intento de enviar la policía federal solo resultará en
más muertes.

Subject: Mexican teachers suffer deadly repression.
Solidarity Needed.

Dear Friends,

Over the last two weeks, many of you signed on to a
letter in solidarity with the public schoolteachers in
Oaxaca, who have been on strike since May 22nd.

This morning, June 14th, at dawn, several thousand
police entered the center of downtown Oaxaca and
attacked the teachers, who have been camped in the
streets since their strike began. Also, the teachers'
union headquarters were attacked, and the teachers'
radio station, Radio Planton, was destroyed; the
radio staff beaten and arrested.

As of noon today (June 14th) five teachers are
confirmed dead. The unconfirmed report is that, among
those five, two of the dead are children, and two of
the dead are women teachers.

Many more teachers have been injured and/or arrested.

The reports are that, despite the brutal police
attack, the teachers have "re-taken" the center of
downtown Oaxaca, and that hundreds of parents, kids,
and students are making their way to the center of
town to support the teachers.

Thus far, the repression has been carried out by state
police, without any involvement by the federal police.
But there are rumors that federal police are already
on their way. So both the governor of Oaxaca, as well
as President Vicente Fox, need to hear from us.

The last time I wrote to you, I was asking you to sign
your name on a letter. This time, I am asking you to
take your solidarity to the streets. Obviously, the
governor of Oaxaca doesn't read his mail. I am asking
you to mobilize in whatever way you see fitŠIf you
can, gather outside of the Mexican consulate wherever
you live. Get other teachers, parents, and students,
to join you. If you can't get out there, then call
your local embassy or consulate and tell them what you
think. Demand that the local Mexican consul deliver
your message to the Governor of the state of Oaxaca.

Tell them that people in the United States are paying
attention. That the situation should be resolved
through dialogue not repression, and that the State of
Oaxaca should respect and meet the teacher's just
demands. Tell them that all threats to send in the
federal police will only result in more deaths.
